General Election Day is November 8!

First, make sure you are registered to vote and, if you are not, register! You can also check your polling place here. You may also register “same day” at an early voting site.

You must attest to your eligibility by completing and signing a North Carolina Voter Registration Application. You must prove your residence by presenting any one of the following documents with your current name and current address:

  • North Carolina driver license.
  • Other photo identification issued by a government agency. Any government-issued photo ID is acceptable, provided that the card bears the voter’s current name and address.
  • A copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document showing the voter’s name and address.
  • A current college/university photo identification card paired with proof of campus habitation.

The dates below are the Dare County early voting schedule for the 2022 General Election. Gather all of your friends and family and vote this year, you can tell how important it is for everyone to participate in elections.

Early, In-person, Voting for the 2022 General Election

Registered voters or eligible individuals in North Carolina were able to cast an absentee ballot in person during this time. This period is sometimes called “one-stop early voting.”

Early voting for the 2022 General Election will be conducted at the following polling locations:

  • Dare County Administration Building – 954 Marshall C. Collins Dr., Manteo, NC 27952
  • Kill Devil Hills Town Hall, 102 Town Hall Drive, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948
  • Fessenden Center Annex, 47017 Buxton Back Road, Buxton, NC 27920

The hours of operation for all early voting polling sites are as follows:

  • Thursday, October 20, 2022 – Friday, October 21, 2022 – 8:00 AM – 7:30 PM
  • Monday, October 24, 2022 – Friday, October 28, 2022 – 8:00 AM – 7:30 PM
  • Monday, October 31, 2022 – Friday, November 4, 2022 – 8:00 AM – 7:30 PM
  • Saturday, November 5, 2022 – 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM

During early voting, voters may cast a ballot at any early voting site in their county, and would-be voters may same-day register and vote. This is different than Election Day, where registered voters must vote at their assigned polling place.

Voting On Election Day, November 8

On Election Day for the 2022 General Election on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, the polls are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. You will vote at your assigned precinct. Use the Voter Lookup Tool to find your polling place, sample ballots, and more.

If you require Curbside Voting:

Curbside Voting is offered at all Dare County polling places. To be eligible for curbside voting, you must be unable to enter the polling place due to age or physical disability. Look for the call bells near the polling place entrance labeled “Curbside Voting.” Poll workers will walk to your car when you park in one of the designated spaces to attend to your voting needs.

Absentee (by mail) Voting

Any North Carolina registered voter may request, receive, and vote a mail-in absentee ballot. No special circumstance or reason is needed. Registered voters in North Carolina must request an absentee ballot with an official N.C. Absentee Ballot Request Form. There are two ways to access and submit the form:

  1. Online with “Option 1 – Request an Absentee Ballot” at the N.C. Absentee Ballot Portal.
  2. On paper with the English N.C. Absentee Ballot Request Form for 2022 (fillable PDF) or the Spanish N.C. Absentee Ballot Request Form for 2022 (fillable PDF).

Then mail, fax, email, or deliver the form in person to the Dare County Board of Elections Administrative Office by 5:00 p.m. on the Tuesday before election day.

The Board of Elections will process the form and mail the voter a ballot packet, which the voter will complete, have witnessed, and return by mail.

The Absentee Ballot Request Form may only be signed by the voter or a voter’s near relative or legal guardian. According to the law, a “near relative” can be any of the following: spouse, sibling, parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, mother-in-law, father-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, stepparent, or stepchild of the voter.

VOTER REGISTRATION

You may register to vote in Dare County if you are:
  • A citizen of the United States; and
  • 18 years of age or older by the election date; and
  • A legal resident of Dare County for 30 days by the date of the next election.
Registration is easy. Just complete the NC Voter Registration Application and return it to the Dare County Board of Elections office. You may drop-off the form during normal business hours or send it by mail. Addresses for both options are shown below.

The application form must be postmarked or delivered 25 days before the date of an election.
