Frederick Douglass and the 19th Amendment

August 26 @ 7:00 pm

The League of Women Voters of Dare invites you to celebrate Women’s Equality Day with “Frederick Douglass and the 19th Amendment”

One of the true heroes of the women’s suffrage movement was the former slave, abolitionist, writer, and orator, Frederick Douglass. Along with Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, he founded the American Equal Rights Association and helped pave the way for voting equity.

So it is fitting that we honor the day, the women, and a few good men with a get-together with Douglass. He will appear in full 19th-century costume, portrayed by Nathan Richardson. Mr. Richardson is a Douglass historian, a published author, and a performance poet. His script was written more than a century ago by Douglass and the way he delivers it is powerful and moving.
