Candidates seeking to file for the 2017 municipal elections will be able to file their notice of candidacy at their county board of elections starting at 12:00 noon on Friday July 7, 2017 and ending at 12:00 noon on Friday, July 21.

To file, a candidate will need to submit a Notice of Candidacy to their county board of elections either by mail or in person during the filing period. Filing forms are available at the NC Board of Elections website two weeks before filming starts.  The filing form and the requisite filing fee must be received by the county board of elections before the filing period ends.

Duck – All 5 Council seats – (incumbents Donald P Kingston, Mayor, Chuck Burdick, Nancy Caviness, Jonathan Britt, Monica Thibodeau Council Members)

Kill Devil HIlls –  Mayor and 2 Commissioners (incumbents Sheila Davies Mayor, Travis Appleman and Michael Midgette Commissioners)

Kitty Hawk – Mayor and 2 Council members (incumbents Gary Perry Mayor,  Craig Garris and Jeff Pruitt Council members

Manteo – Mayor and 3 Commissioners (incumbents Jamie Daniels Mayor, Christine Walker , Martha Wickre, Richie Burke Commissioners)

Nags Head – Mayor and 2 Commissioners (incumbents Bob Edwards, Marvin Demers and John Ratzenberger Commissioners)

Southern Shores – Mayor and 1 Council members(Tom Bennett, Mayor, Leo Holland Council Member)

An anonymous donor as offered a $100 donation in support of the precinct that has the most attendees at the County-wide meeting on Monday.  Come out and support your precinct at the meeting on Monday June 26 at 6:30 p.m. in the south wing of Nags Head Fire Station 16, just across from Town Hall. Parking at the station is limited. Please park at Town Hall and cross safely to the fire station The meeting will feature a talk by Zack Pate, chair of the 3rd District Progressive Caucus of the NC Democratic Party.

The prize will go to the precinct with the most people in attendance regardless of party so bring your friends and neighbors.  The funds can be used for any precinct project.

Zachary Pate is a recent graduate of East Carolina University and has been active in the Democratic Party for several years.   A Wake County native and Pitt County resident of over 17 years, he served as a Bernie Sanders delegate to the 2016 Democratic National Convention.  In January, he formed the 3rd District Progressive Caucus to unite voters activated by the election on Donald Trump and expand their voice within the Democratic Party.

The meeting will include a business meeting with committee reports, remarks by Pate and an opportunity for dialog among those attending about the plans and policies of the county party.   The meeting is open to the public.
